Cardiac rehabilitation helps patients with heart disease, with better quality of life. It is also named as Cardiac rehab; Heart attack - cardiac rehab; coronary heart disease - cardiac rehab; Coronary artery disease - cardiac rehab; Angina - cardiac rehab; Heart failure - cardiac rehab.
It helps in recovering from a heart attack, or heart surgery after heart failure. It also provides a better prognosis to ongoing medical or surgical therapies. It includes education about food habits, lifestyle, and exercises including body purification through naturopathic and panchakarma techniques yogic asanas, pranayama, and meditation. It reduces symptoms, improves the quality of life, is a method of preventive cardiology resulting in relapses and disease progression, and improves overall cardiovascular functions. It reduces the stress level, thereby reducing the stress hormones and downplay of the sympathetic system.
Yogic meditations are the best way to achieve this goal. We all know that mental fitness is an essential step to maintaining physical fitness.
Panchkarma is a dedicated procedure of Ayurveda, where accumulated inflammatory cytokines and oxidized macronutrients (generated by free radical attack) harmful to normal physiology are removed. It includes 5 steps targeting the cleaning of the gastrointestinal tract, blood vessels, and ENT vessels. It also allows a better method of drug delivery without an intravenous route. The preparatory steps of panchakarma include oil and dry massage of the full body (Snehan), complete body swatting (Sweden), and Shirodhara by oil.
The specific Yogic exercises includes shava asana (शव आसन), pawanmukta asan (पवनमुक्त आसन), uttan pad asan (उत्तान पाद आसन), surya namaskar (सूर्य नमस्कार), santulan asan (सन्तुलन आसन), pranayama (प्राणायाम), meditation (मेडिटेशन), ardh vakr asan (अर्ध वक्र आसन), bajr asan (बज्र आसन), bhujang asan (भुजंग आसन), shalab asan (शलभ आसन)
Persons who survived heart attack/ failure, heart transplant, heart valve surgery, angioplasty or having angina, peripheral artery disease, high blood pressure, chronic diabetes and obesity, are good subjects for undertaking cardiac rehabilitation programme.
Cardiac rehabilitation may help people to improve their quality of life, lower their risk of having a heart attack, to have better performance in daily tasks, better quality of life, better mental and physical fitness, better self-confidence, and better eating habits with the supply of micronutrients and Phyto molecules through food supplements, losing over body weight, quitting bad habits of smoking, drinking alcohol, deep fried and high caloric foods, frequent eating habits, lowering high blood pressure and high cholesterol, high blood sugar, high mental stress, anxiety, depression, bad sleep quality, etc.
